Appointed Head of Individual Giving

RNIB support people with sight loss to live full and independent lives, and works towards a world where people with visual impairments are fully included and have equal opportunities.

As a key member of the RNIB team, you will work closely with the Director of Public Income and Engagement to drive transformative growth in income. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the development and implementation of strategies for engaging with individual supporters and customers, while exploring new audiences and innovative approaches that inspire and motivate people to connect with RNIB and support their vision.

The Head of Individual Giving is crucial role for RNIB, requiring a dynamic and influential individual giving expert to set the vision for growth and work collaboratively with colleagues across the directorate and wider organisation. With your exceptional leadership skills and deep understanding of individual giving best practices, you will help RNIB to achieve their ambitious goals and deliver essential services to people with sight loss. The trustees have signed off investment over the next five years, increasing spend from £10 million to £12-13 million for FY 27/28. A new fundraising strategy has been launched for Income and Engagement, with ambitious income growth objectives. The Head of Individual Giving will have freedom within that framework to lead on growth and shape the programme accordingly. This is a career-defining opportunity, with widespread organisational support for individual giving driving transformational income growth in an already successful programme.

About the role

As Head of Individual Giving, you will:

  • Have full strategic responsibility for Individual Giving (income target of £23.5 million in FY 23/24)
  • Lead a team of 15 with 2 senior managers reporting directly, empowering them to deliver on their plans
  • Work collaboratively across the Income and Engagement directorate and the wider organisation, ensuring integrated marketing and stewardship
  • Deliver successful multi-channel campaigns via your team and colleagues, managing agency expenditure accordingly
  • Bring a customer-led approach to using data and insight, enhancing customer experience and driving long-term customer engagement

About you

  • Senior individual giving professional who has managed multimillion pound expenditure budgets
  • Ability to see opportunities and drive strategic vision, and able to shape an existing individual giving programme
  • Either already at head of individual giving level, or have headed acquisition or retention function at a large charity
  • Senior managers looking for their first step into a head role will be considered if they bring very strong experience
  • Experience of managing either DRTV campaigns or Face to Face (Digital experience is also of interest)
  • Confident leader with the gravitas to be the organisational champion of individual giving, bringing high levels of emotional intelligence
  • Empowering style of management with proven experience managing a large team
  • Strong influencing and relationship building skills
