Interviewing Individual Giving Consultant

Children Not Numbers

The escalating crisis in Gaza has left countless children in dire need of medical attention, support, and hope. Children Not Numbers are a medico-legal NGO committed to the health, safety, education and rehabilitation of the children of Gaza.

Established in February 2024, Children Not Numbers (CNN) has quickly grown to an international team of over 115, comprising mostly of volunteer paediatric specialists with broad expertise, along with lawyers and mental health professionals.

In collaboration with team members in Gaza, CNN’s multi-disciplinary team meet in virtual rooms to review patient information and share opinions on diagnosis, management and the need for medical evacuation. Through their network of ground staff in Gaza and global members, Children Not Numbers provide:

  • Immediate, in-country medical aid to children such as Maryam. To date, their international faculty of leading paediatricians have provided medical advice to 200+ child patients in Gaza.
  • Medical evacuation from Gaza to host states equipped to manage urgent and complex healthcare needs with a focus on family unification, for children including Sadeel and Kinan. To date, CNN have facilitated 167 evacuations.
  • Long-term rehabilitation, education and trauma support for their lifelong disabilities and extreme mental trauma to promote the well-being of affected children and their carers.
  • Emergency aid relief via their locally recruited aid distribution team. To date, CNN have supplied emergency accommodation tents for 50+ families.
  • International advocacy for the children of Gaza,  including working with the UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner, UN Committee on the Rights of Children, the European commission, and briefings with UK government.

Sadeel was evacuated at just 10-months old for an urgent liver transplant that the NGO facilitated and funded. Less than a few weeks away from being palliated, her evacuation saved her life, but separated her from her mother and siblings. Sadeel is one of so many.

Fundraising Context

Children Not Numbers (CNN) is highly active on social media, generating significant organic engagement that correlates with income. Typical cash donations range between £50 and £200 per campaign, while some individuals have made multiple contributions of over £1,000.

We’re seeking an individual giving specialist with digital fundraising expertise to harness CNN’s impressive organic engagement, professionalising and scaling the income it generates to enable its critical work on the ground supporting children in Gaza.

Immediate Priorities:

  • Clarify and maximise emergency fundraising: Work with the Founders and Social Media Lead to maximise cash asks via social media
  • Establish the rudiments of supporter retention and engagement: Initiate cash-to-regular-giving fundamentals, i.e. GDPR/data capture protocols, basic donor tracking and segmented comms, explore the potential for mid-value donor development, etc

Strategic/Medium-Term Priorities:

  • Convert one-off donors into regular givers: Develop a framework for converting occasional donors into long-term supporters
  • Optimise social media for sustainable income: Initiate strategies for sustained donor engagement
  • Support self-organised fundraising: Develop basic materials for people who want to self-organise fundraising events
  • Create a supporter stewardship programme: Develop structured engagement to deepen relationships and encourage ongoing support
  • Review and build fundraising systems: Audit current practices and develop sustainable processes to support future growth

About you

Skills and approach sought:

  • Track record in developing and executing digital fundraising campaigns
  • Experience generating income under urgent conditions, ideally in a crisis or emergency response situation
  • Familiarity with creating frameworks and systems that support future growth in public giving, including identifying mid-to-high-value donor prospects and developing related comms and engagement plans
  • Ability to handle sensitive and distressing information professionally and with care
  • Experience working with social media specialists to integrate social media and fundraising strategies effectively
  • Experience supporting self-organised fundraising efforts, providing tools, templates, and guidance to maximise the potential of independent fundraisers
  • A strong commitment to CNN’s cause and the ability to handle complex, sensitive situations with professionalism
  • Impartiality and non-political stance, especially regarding sensitive regional topics
