The charity

Terrence Higgins Trust are the largest voluntary sector provider of HIV and sexual health services in the UK, running services out of local centres across Great Britain. The aims they have set out in their Bold Ambitions strategy champion the end of HIV transmissions and the improvement of sexual health, support people living with and affected by HIV and poor sexual health, and ensure that the voices of people affected by HIV are heard.

They do this in many different ways, including supporting and amplifying the voices of people living with HIV,  providing testing services for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and helping their service users achieve good sexual health.

As well as providing services, they campaign on issues from relationships and sex education in schools to the proper funding of HIV services. They also run community projects such as Positive Voices, which supports people living with HIV to tell their own stories, and Work Positive, which helps people living with HIV into employment. They lead It Starts with Me, the national HIV prevention programme on behalf of Public Health England.

The role

This is a key, strategic role that leads an award-winning, agile team of four heads (Direct Marketing and Legacy, Statutory and Trusts, Philanthropy and Events, and UK and Local Fundraising) and an income of £13.5m. As a senior leader in the organisation, you will have the opportunity to create new programmes of fundraising activity, using your influence and flair for innovation to engage colleagues across departments to connect messages and resources. Combining a strategic outlook with the ability to take a hands-on approach, you will build on extensive recent success, revising the fundraising portfolio and testing new ideas in an ambitious culture of investment and creativity.

Since January 2018 the Income Generation and Operations directorates have been structurally integrated, providing a superb bedrock on which to build a successful new fundraising strategy in collaboration with services. Collaboration is at the core of their working model, and THT are employing a multi-disciplinary approach to developing new services, ensuring a very clear offering of fundraising products across all income streams.

This is a hugely exciting time to join THT. With the continual involvement and engagement of donors and partners, the Director of Income Generation will ensure that fundraising activities are fresh, targeted and delivered with quality to encourage an evolving donor journey. ‘Can-do’ people thrive here, and are given the support and freedom to develop new ideas and opportunities.

The goal of ending HIV transmission is in sight and the Director of Income Generation will be key to securing the financial backing required to achieve this, working with amazing colleagues united by their passion for the cause and supported by a board eager to invest in new fundraising ideas.
