About the organisation/role

We are working with the UK’s largest charitable funder of palliative and end of life care research. This charity offers a range of services including home nursing, hospice care, emotional support, and bereavement support. They have a team of nurses who provide care to patients in their own homes, allowing them to stay in a familiar environment while receiving palliative care. They also operate hospices across the UK where patients can receive round-the-clock care in a homely setting. In addition, the charity provides emotional support and counselling for patients and their families, as well as support for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

As the direct giving manager, you will work closely with the head of direct giving, managing a well-established team of three, which comprises of two direct giving fundraisers and a supply chain manager. This particular role will have a strong focus on stewardship but opportunities to work across all channels will be available. As a department, they actively facilitate experience across all products and channels.

Job description

  • Lead the stewardship team responsible for cause-led tele-marketing, newsletters, retention strategy for regular giving, and cash raffles.
  • Launch and manage new programs, such as “Sponsor a Nurse,” taking ownership and building out future strategies.
  • Line manage two direct giving fundraisers and a supply chain manager, with guidance and support from head of direct giving.
  • Assess and streamline the current retention and reactivation strategies, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the head of direct giving on strategy and targets, aiming to achieve a target of £1.3 million in expendable income, and a total of £11.3 million as a department.

Person specification

  • Strong background in direct giving fundraising, with experience in stewardship and retention strategies.
  • Excellent financial acumen and attention to detail.
  • Good leadership and people management skills, with experience in managing direct reports or experience mentoring a junior.
  • Ability to assess and improve existing strategies, with a keen eye for identifying gaps and opportunities.
  • Passionate and engaged, with a drive to make a difference.
