Christian Aid works in over 100 countries around the world, helping people to build better lives for themselves and their communities. Its main areas of work focus on:
  • Emergency relief: providing emergency assistance to people affected by natural disasters, conflict, and other crises.
  • Long-term development: helping people lift themselves out of poverty by providing access to education, healthcare, clean water, and other essential services.
  • Advocacy: campaigning for changes in policies and practices that can help to reduce poverty and inequality.
  • Climate change: working to address the root causes of climate change and to help communities adapt to its impacts. It also works to raise awareness of the issue and to advocate for action on climate change.

The Digital Lead is a critical role for Christian Aid and will lead on its ambitious goals for digital fundraising and supporter engagement.

The role reports to the Head of Communications in a newly established team within the Fundraising and Supporter Engagement department.

This role works across the whole organisation, especially with colleagues in policy and advocacy, enabling digital to be the beating heart of Christian Aid’s engagement with its supporters.

About the role

  • Responsible for website development, social media, digital marketing and content.
  • Leadership and development of a direct team of 4 managers (wider team of 11), ensuring team growth is in line with organisational aims.
  • Development and implementation of a creative digital strategy that matches ambition and growth of the department.
  • Ensure digital channels and content are able to respond quickly and efficiently in line with emergency response or critical campaigning issues.
  • Budget responsibility of circa £240,000 and agency management.

About you

  • An experienced digital leader with demonstrable results across digital channels. Candidates from outside of the charity sector or from third sector digital agency will be considered.
  • Ideally working at Head level (or equivalent). Those looking to develop their career and step up from a senior management level will also be considered.
  • Expertise in digital marketing is of interest, as this is an area Christian Aid is looking to develop.
  • Experience of delivering complex digital campaigns, with an eye for improvement and development.
  • Ambitious and with a results-orientated approach.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with a collaborative attitude.

  • 25 days pro-rata annual leave, rising to 28 days after 5 years service, and 31 days after 10 years service

  • After 2 years’ service, employees are able to request a longer period of time away from work (3 months to a maximum of 12 months) which is termed a ‘career break’
  • Maternity/adoption leave pay of 16 weeks at 100% and 18 weeks at 50%
  • Up to 52 weeks maternity/adoption leave, regardless of length of service
  • Up to 18 weeks’ parental leave (2 paid weeks and 16 unpaid weeks)
  • Up to 3 days of paid time off in a 12 month rolling period for situations relating to a dependant
