For over 70 years, The Refugee Council has supported refugees and people seeking asylum to rebuild their lives in the UK. Working with over 14,000 men, women and children every year, the charity provide crisis advice and practical support, and offer mental health counselling to help with the trauma so many have experienced. 

With the ongoing worldwide refugee crisis, Refugee Council is needed more than ever and effectively communicating a positive narrative about refugees and the Refugee Council has never been more important.

The organisation is embarking on an exciting new phase with a new ambitious strategy, a new senior leadership team and a much higher media profile. Refugee Council are ambitious about ensuring they are the main voice in the national media, public and political debate shaping a more compassionate narrative through powerful storytelling, compelling campaigning and a highly effective media strategy.

This brand-new role sits in the Fundraising and External Affairs Directorate, which is responsible for all the charity’s external facing work including media, brand, digital, campaigns, income generation, policy and advocacy work. The Chief Digital Lead will lead the digital transformation of Refugee Council in relation to fundraising, communications, campaigns and engagement internally and externally, driving audience engagement and attitudinal change.

About the role

The position will: 

  • Lead digital transformation for Refugee Council – a key strategic priority for the coming year
  • Develop and deliver a new brand and digital strategy
  • Work across the charity to develop an organisation-wide digital content and engagement strategy
  • Strategically manageme a six-figure transformation budget, engaging agencies as required
  • Manage a team of three

About you

Ideal skills and experience: 

  • Previously leading a digital transformation project
  • Developing digital and brand strategies
  • Project management experience of launching new websites
  • Charity experience is not essential, but a commitment to the work and values of The Refugee Council is essential
  • Line management experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively across different functions
