Appointed Director of Fundraising and Communications

CARE International UK

CARE International UK (CIUK) is one of 18 full members of the global CARE International confederation, placing special focus on women and girls, because women’s rights are human rights. We know that they cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

Last year, CIUK reached over 1.2m people – 61% of whom women and girls – across 38 countries via 75 programmes, tracking their contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. As well as supporting global humanitarian and development work, CIUK provides expertise in women’s economic empowerment, inclusive governance, crisis response, and engaging with business partners. They also play a key role in CARE’s policy and external engagement work focused on tackling the structural causes of poverty and social injustice.

As they embark on a fresh organisational strategy with a new Chief Executive, CIUK is seeking to appoint an outstanding fundraising and communications leader to the new position of Director of Fundraising & Communications. The role will position fundraising and communications at the heart of CIUK, collaborating across the charity to ensure consistent, distinctive messaging that supports great fundraising and the delivery of wider organisational goals linked to influencing policy and engaging external decision-makers.

You will lead a team of c.40 with an income budget of c.£10m of restricted and unrestricted funds and be a key voice on the Senior Leadership Team that drives CIUK’s strategic objectives and their achievement. This is a fantastic opportunity to consider the bigger picture for CIUK, positioning and elevating the brand presence and income generation of a major INGO that is scratching the surface of its fundraising and communications potential.

International development is a complicated environment undergoing significant change. We’re looking for people who understand this backdrop and can develop opportunities that create change, ensuring CIUK defines itself clearly and is positioned in a compelling way with key audiences. A driven, solutions-focused leader who is conscious of the challenges of the international development sector, leads from the front and responds to opportunity will thrive here.
