Spitalfields Crypt Trust was founded in 1965 and has been supporting people struggling with addictions and complex needs following the needless death of a homeless man on the steps of Christchurch in Spitalfields. For more than 50 years, we have been working in East London to rebuild the lives of people in recovery from addiction and homelessness. Over that time, we have supported thousands of people to move away from chaotic lives on the edges of our society. Originally, we started as a soup kitchen and night shelter in the crypt of the church, but fast forward to today and we are almost unrecognisable outwardly, though our heart is the same.
We run an addiction treatment centre, personal development and training services for people in recovery, a Housing First project, alongside a number of social enterprises and charity shops. Our pioneering approach embodies best-practise around addiction recovery by treating the whole person and their needs.
We are thrilled to recruit for the new role of Director of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing and see the role’s creation as a way for us to take the charity to the next level. We have significant motivations to diversify our fundraising income streams, whilst also raising the profile of the charity and our social enterprises.
The successful candidate will be joining SCT at an exciting time of change and development. I joined the charity around six months ago and I see the new Director of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing as taking a pivotal role in shaping the charity’s future. As well as gradually increasing our income across all fundraising streams, we want to be recognised as a leader in the fields of addiction and homelessness, as well as marketing new and innovative approaches to our retail and social enterprise endeavours. We are in a fortunate position to not be reliant on statutory sources and to have unrestricted income from our retail offer, allowing the new Director to develop an aspirational and innovative strategy with a budget to match.
I hope you are as enthusiastic as we are about what lies ahead. If you think you can help us by being an integral part in realising our plans as an inspirational and dynamic leader, we would very much like to hear from you.
